Our Adoption Story

Our first child, Gabriel, was born in 2008 and changed our lives forever.  We loved being parents and Teresa knew immediately that she wanted more children.  Once Gabriel could understand the concept of family, he began asking for a little sister.  We felt God was calling us to adopt a child and began our adoption journey in May 2012.  As a middle class family, we knew that we did not have the money to pay for adoption expenses.  At the same time we were blessed with resources and health insurance to care for another child in our home.  We prayed that God would open hearts to partner with us in our adoption journey and that in turn hearts would be opened to seek information about adoption and orphan care.  Our desire was that God would use our experience to His glory and that other middle class families could see that it is possible to adopt a child without incurring a debt.

During our camping vacation at Myrtle Beach in August 2013 Bethany Christian Services’ China Team called to inform us that we had been referred a 9 month old baby with albinism.   When we opened our daughter’s file, we knew she would be the perfect addition to our family.  Through Nathan’s family’s service with the Lions Club and Volunteer Industries for the Blind in Tennessee, God had been preparing them for a child with low vision.  Chloe’s referral sparked our fundraising efforts and renewed our prayers for God to open hearts to help us bring our daughter home.  We started a children’s consignment sale at our church, Adopt to Consign, as an adoption fund for church members and to help families in our community that were adopting.  Our goal is to have a consignment sale each year to help adopting families bring their children home.

On January 13, 2014 we met our daughter.  Our adoption was finalized the next day making Chloe the beloved daughter of Nathan and Teresa and admired sister of Gabriel.  Now that we are home in Tennessee we reflect on God’s gracious love and are humbled that He would entrust us with our dear Chloe.  She has brought such joy and laughter to our lives.  We pray that our story will encourage you in your adoption process or as you plan to consign with us to help orphans come home.
